Hear The One About The Gay Polish Elephant?

The Poznan Zoo in Poland is being criticized for acquiA Polish zoo has been condemned by politicians for acquiring a 'gay' elephant who refuses to matering a boy elephant that appears to like other boy elephants.  In case you failed health class, that means he won’t be advancing the herd anytime soon. Oops.

Zoo officials first became skeptical when the elephant, Ninio, began dancing to Village People music playing over the zoo’s loudspeakers.

Polish politicians have long debated gay rights issues, but no one expected politics to play a part in the life of a sexually finicky elephant.

Politician Michal Grzes actually said that:

“We didn’t pay 37 million zlotys ($11 million) for the largest elephant house in Europe to have a gay elephant live here.”

By “gay” he meant homosexual not pleasant and giddy.  Of course, the gay elephant might also be pleasant and giddy.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

According to a Reuters report, the head of the zoo actually said that:

“10-year-old Ninio may be too young to decide whether he prefers males or females, as elephants don’t reach sexual maturity until 14.”

Simply stunning.

Do people really believe that this animal will decide whether he like boys or girls?  Are elephants really that smart?  I’ve never watched an animal contemplate lifestyle choices, but that would be interesting.  Does that mean homosexuality is a lifestyle choice? How does Dumbo feel about all this?

I don’t think my brain can handle all these questions.  With a case like this, better to just let Disney sort it out.  Warning: Do not watch this video if you are currently on drugs.  Or do.

  2. I think I can make sense, cause I live in Poland and I use to read polish press. First, not “politicians” but a “politician”. One apparently not quite menthaly stable. Now whole country makes good laught of him. Second, he is not concerned about elephants “lifestyle choices” as you put it, but about money. Poznan authorities invested to breed elephants and Ninio, as Mr Grzes suspects, will not be a reproductor. Third, in my humble opinion it’s not so stunning, as you think. Conservativ politicians are … well, say, eccentrinc all over the world.
Sorry for possible misspellings and I hope the story is a little more clear now.

    • Thanks so much for the comment. I know the story is small and being blown out of proportion. I was just having fun with it.

This months marks the 1st anniversary of EduClaytion.  The world hasn’t disappointed on the interesting happenings front and neither have you.  Together we’ve laid out some strange angles on triumphs, tragedies, and everything in between.  We’ve watched America become an Obama nation while surviving threats from Scientologists and swine.  You’ll find no shortage of pop culture references here either, be it Kevin Bacon, Braveheart, or the Breakfast Club.  Shoot, even the animal kingdom’s been involved from victorious Penguins to a gay, Polish elephant.    [...]
