Your Universe, My Perspective

D.C. Sniper Will Die Tonight

Imagine cruising down to the local car wash one mid-morning to vacuum your car out.  Now imagine that’s the last thing you ever did because a bullet that seemed to come out of nowhere took your life.  Lori Lewis Rivera was only 25 in October of 2002 when she met that fate.  Imagine if she were your child.

Tonight, John Muhammad–the monstrous coward who killed 10 people and injured more from a trunk in 2002–will be executed on purpose.  The Supreme Court isn’t letting him off.  He’ll be dead by the time the Pittsburgh Penguins finish up with the Boston Bruins.

Sound callous, huh?  Oh well.  He sure didn’t seem to care about all the lives he destroyed.  I think he’s getting off easy.  Maybe they should just keep sending him out to pump gas all over Maryland knowing that each step might be his last.  Let Lori Rivera’s dad pull the trigger if you want.

Lost in this tragic tale is the eerie irony that Muhammad and his accomplice Lee Malvo operated from a Chevy Caprice.  Caprice happens to mean a sudden or impulsive desire, seemingly unmotivated.  Meaningless you could say.

Revenge may not be right, but justice sure is.  After tonight, Muhammad will be no more.  I hope impending death scares him enough to seek forgiveness.

  1. revenge isn’t justice. “let lori rivera’s dad pull the trigger if you want” sounds like revenge. if this is the case, lets just forgo the entire judicial process and just kill whoever we believe to be guilty of crimes. why waste tax dollars?

    • I don’t believe revenge is right, I’m just trying to balance the emotion vs the reality. I also don’t think just anybody should be punished, only people who are proven guilty. As for tax dollars, we do waste them by keeping condemned killers alive for way too long. If we’re gonna execute them, get it done already and save fifteen years of death row accomodations.
