Greatest Christmas Movie Ever? The Finals!

What is the greatest Christmas ever?  According to the majority of voters around these parts the answer to that question comes down to a choice between The Christmas Story and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.  We’ve made it to the end of the 12 Days of Christmas Movies bracket.  Here’s where we stand.

The Final Showdown is here! Click to enlarge

The choice is clear.  Your job is simple.  Cast your vote in the poll below.  Share this with anyone who might be interested, and let’s get a solid sample of selectors.  You can read more about the films we’ve covered in recent posts, so I’m not going to take any more of your time with film info like that.

I will, however, take a minute of your time with this, my thanks to you for being such fabulous peeps & tweeps.  I love you all and want to give something back from the bottom of my heart or at least the baseline of my dignity.  Maybe we can at least spread a little Christmas cheer.  Don’t forget to vote below!

Ho, ho, ho and ya know, know, know this post has got more bells and whistles than The Polar Express!  I hope you have a terrific weekend with friends and family.  Be blessed my friends.

Voting will remain open until Noon tomorrow, exactly 24 hours before the first ghost is scheduled to visit…

I wouldhave to go with the one I could watch over and over on Christmas day. That would be Christmas Vacation. It also was just released on netflix instant streaming so I think I am going to watch it today!

Looks like you started us off with the Griswolds and the momentum is still going. And I love me some Netflix streaming. Tx for the tip.

Merry Christmas to you! Thanks for the entertaining holiday behind the scenes video. It does our hearts good to see that having Rick as one of your teachers has warped your brain a bit.

    • educlaytion December 25, 2010 at 12:01 am #

Being a student of Rick’s is like staring into the Crystal Skull from Indiana Jones. You’re permanently warped and may never come back. Thanks for the kind wishes. I hope you guys have a fantastic weekend!

I mentioned last night to my dad we needed to watch Christmas Vacation. His response: “Make it happen.”

Meanwhile Ralphie won’t be ignore, as we always catch him during the 24 hours of A Christmas Story when we visit my father-in-law – who lived Ralphie’s life while growing up in Ohio, including the Ovaltine commercial. :-)

Still, Griswolds are a steamroller to take out all other movies.

Next you need to have a larger pool and take out both the finalists from this year. Do the bracket again. Then the winner of next year’s bracket faces off against #2 seed this year (calling it A Christmas Story) and if they trump that, they go on to the masterful Christmas Vacation to see if any movie can take down the Griswold juggernaut.

Just an idea. Otherwise those two take out too many potentials early on before they can gain steam. :-)

Hands down, in homage to my screen name and “professional impression” of Aunt Bethany herself, I cast my ballot for National Lampoon’s. Clark’s spaz-out speech at the end of the movie is comic gold, not to mention the brilliance which was Randy Quaid in that movie (oh, how the mighty have fallen). There are far too many quotable quotes and favorite holiday moments in this movie to even consider anything else to rival it. C’mon Gris…defeat that squirrel on your back known as Ralphie and get your house to twinkle in all of its 100,000 twinkle light glory!

And let’s address that video, shall we? Can you please just make a dance video? I mean, really…I would much rather watch you Moonwalk than Britney Spears or Taylor Swift ANYDAY. Make it so, Clay…make it so.

      • educlaytion December 23, 2010 at 1:49 pm #

I could do a dancing video but I’m not sure the world will ever really be ready for that. If I did though I would call it Pop, Lock, & Barrel. Just sayin…

LMFAO, have you been hitting the eggnog already? I’m jealous. I’m also laughing too hard to tell you which one I voted for!

    • educlaytion December 23, 2010 at 1:46 pm #

No libations whatsoever WoPro although I did slug a Monster Lo-Carb, the sensible energy supplement. I’m glad you laughed. You should probably tell everyone you know about it ;-)

OMG, I’m struggling to view the video through the hot chocolate I just shot out my nose.

    Merry Freakin’ Christmas!

    • educlaytion December 23, 2010 at 1:45 pm #

You mean you didn’t shed a tear during my interpretive dance of Let’s Get It Started? I hope the hot chocolate didn’t get on your keyboard.

Chevy Chase? Will Ferrell? Come on. It’s a wonderful life knocked out first round? Really? What about A Christmas Carol? I’m on board with A Christmas Story but this ballot was seriously lacking. Bah Humbug.

    • educlaytion December 23, 2010 at 7:45 pm #

I’m with you on It’s a Wonderful Life getting booted. That’s messed up! As far as A Christmas Carol, I went with Scrooged (which also got sacked directly). Not sure how you’re against Chevy or Christmas Vacation though. If only you’d been here sooner to save the Baileys!

  8. lori December 23, 2010 at 9:19 pm #

That video made my Christmas! Hope you and your family have a fantastic holiday weekend! (I’m coming up from Charlotte the 1st week in January…maybe we’ll get a chance to catch up!)

    • educlaytion December 24, 2010 at 12:41 am #

Sound great Lori! It would be great to see you. I’m sure your fam will enjoy my heartwarming video greeting. Tell them I say hello.

  9. Larry Hehn December 23, 2010 at 9:36 pm #

I think I used to have the same sweater. I voted for A Christmas Story because when I flipped the coin, it came up tails.

    • educlaytion December 24, 2010 at 12:42 am #

Aw come on Larry, you still have that sweater. Admit it. Down to a coin flip means you are satisfied with the choice I guess. Sounds good.

      • Larry Hehn December 24, 2010 at 9:17 am #

You’re right, I do have it. Those 100% acrylic sweaters never wear out, no matter how hard you try.

And yep, I’m happy with both finalists. It’s a total win/win!

  10. Ironic Mom December 24, 2010 at 11:45 pm #

Okay. How did I miss this yesterday? That video is epic. I was LMAO. A nice kids-in-bed Christmas cackle.

    • educlaytion December 25, 2010 at 11:11 am #

I laughed at seeing that you laughed! Out loud cackles are the best! Thanks :-)

  11. Kelly K December 25, 2010 at 12:26 am #

Ok, I just finally got 5 minutes to watch the video.

Let’s just say that I was the recipient of many odd perplexed looks as I nearly knocked my laptop to the floor as I roared with laughter.

    Priceless.

The only thing missing – music from 1988 to match the sweater. :-)

Thank you so much for the laugh.

    • educlaytion December 25, 2010 at 11:13 am #

That’s great! Nothing like causing people to roar and be scowled at! I knew you would enjoy the emotional depth portrayed.
