It’s certainly a major anniversary weekend as we prepare to look back at the attacks of 9/11 from a decade out. For today, however, I’m remembering a man who made a major impact in my life.
He died 5 years ago today and is more responsible for me being a writer than anyone else in my life. I wish I could still pick up the phone and call him. He’d get a kick out of the good stuff happening this summer for my writing career.
Many of you have never read the tribute I wrote for him last year. I hope you’ll check out:

I’m glad you reposted this one. I hadn’t read it originally – what a lovely tribute. I’ve had a few wonderful teachers like that, too, who left a powerful legacy and inspired hundreds of students.
I wonder if I am a teacher who had that kind of impact on my students. I hope so!
I’m so glad he was there for you. I had a teacher in my life who was a mentor/other mother/friend. She always told me I was a blessing to her, and I didn’t understand why until long after she passed on. Great teachers love nothing more than a student willing to listen. I’m sure you were a great blessing to your teacher.
